Montbleu Screws The Pooch

Montbleu Lake Tahoe Hotel Review - Roomservice

Room Service Aftermath

One morning, we decided to order in some room service for us and the "doggie room service" for Maxine. I know it's supremely corny, but the possibility of spoiling our pooch with a hand delivered plate of dog food room service was something we were really looking forward to. When we made our room service call, the attendant on the other end of the line said that there was no dog room service and never has been.

Our order : Mrs. Mo had blueberry blintzes, and I had the American Breakfast, both of which were very good. Maxine got a slice of bacon and some of her usual stuff that we brought with us.

Overall the room was didn't disappoint although it certainly didn't match the expectations set by their marketing materials. The service from bell hops, porters and room service delivery people was great. The guy at the Montbleu comp club sign up desk gave us a handful of baggies containing dice 'used in this fabulous casino' as well as a slew of pens when we signed up.

However the botched dog package thing kinda stuck in our craw. We paid for a set array of services as part of the Bleu Ribbon Pets package, they didn't deliver on most of what they promised. After we returned home, Mrs. Mo went to the Montbleu website and lodged a complaint... in mid-August 2007. Five months later, as Montbleu's owner Columbia-Sussex' house of cards began crumbling under the weight of slashed staffing, customer complaints and fights with employee unions, we received an email from Montbleu with an apology and an offer for 1 complimentary night at Montbleu Lake Tahoe. Responding five months after a customer lodges a complaint is inexcusable. Offering 1 night comped is asinine. Folks just don't 'happen' to go to Lake Tahoe, they have to make a special trip. One comp night is a gesture of empty sentiment that will require us to spring for a second night and all the fixins that go with it. Thanks but no thanks, Mrs. Mo said in her response, wherein she reiterated her initial request - refund at least half of what we paid for the Bleu Ribbon Pets package, as less than half of what was promised was delivered.

Since it took them six months to get back to our request last time, we thought we should wait six months to see if they would get back to us this time, just to be safe. As of this writing - September 3, 2008, a full year since our visit, they haven't.

Montbleu screwed our pooch.

arf!

Comments:

The only place I've had the pleasure of staying in Lake Tahoe was Harvey's and that place was pretty awesome. Rooftop pool = great.
But this place you were at does look like it's in the middle of an idenity crisis and salmon marble looks like the jacuzzi tubs in Ballys

I will forgive Chuck's fading memory here.

A couple of inaccuracies:

1. I was not in the room when the bowl of food was delivered. Chuck accepted it while I was out.
2. When I saw that thing I called down to the front desk only to be told that they had no other options. I told them to then call room service and get me a doggamned bowl that my dog can reach cause I did not bring one upon THEIR promise. They finally relented and clearly ran to the market with a cheapo dual water/food bowl. (Which I stole, 'cause F them, thats why)

Another thing he forgot:

Getting food at the Montbleu can sometimes be an impossible task. Mexican restaurant is closed for a good portion of the day, as is the steakhouse.

if you want to eat coffee shop food, however, you are in luck as 20-Four is open 24/7.

While the Montbleu isn't fantastic it has two things going for it: a great indoor pool, cheap weekday rooms if you priceline bid for it midweek. My wife and I frequently visit there as a relative local because in February for example nothing beats hanging out poolside at an empty hotel when everything else in the area is covered in snow.

Friends are staying there right now...their room is almost identical...all the same furniture and soft goods...their jacuzzi is round and surrounded by off-white tile, though.
